| Updates on Race Progress will appear here | Update: 17th April 2008: Entry forms available now HERE On line at no extra charge at UKResults We are planning to change the 2nd run for the safety of the runners, to have the 2nd run shorter, flatter, but using decent paths/tarmac roads that are infrequently used (there are about 6 residents living on this one! It also means a circuit of the Lafarge Dry Rigg Quarry, passing their monster trucks and including a couple of hills! The quarry is closed for this and they are putting down a surface for the race. One section of this run goes through a field along a farm track, but I walked it after loads of rain and it would still be fine in road shoes. If it is favourable, then the run route will be this both times in 2009 We are pleased to announce that another sponsor has come on board this year. Lafarge have agreed to be the title sponsor for this race.This means if you are a Lafarge Employee, you get cheap entry! IT ALSO MEANS THAT PROFITS FROM THIS RACE GO TO CHARITY!! CAR PARKING: -
When you arrive PLEASE PARK where indicated in the car park opposite the School, not at the side of the road, or at the pub.
Safety is paramount, as is respecting the wishes of the local residents.

The Run: The start is from outside the Old School House heading up the hill. As the road bears right, turn left on the tarmac single track road. Follow this road to the next village (Little Stainforth).Here, turn left and descend down the lane to a narrow bridge. The lane becomes steep and ascends up to the main road (B6479). Turn left. Care on this road is needed as there is no pavement on the left in places. Follow this back to the turning left for Helwith Bridge. Over the bridge and into Transition. Transition

Transition: This is where your bike will be kept whilst running. Whenever moving your bike ensure your helmet is fastened on your head as not doing so results in being stopped to do so and if ignored, a two minute penalty is incurred. Do not ride in transition but follow the marshal's instructions out of transition, running with your bike to the mount area where you can start cycling. The route turns immediately left onto the road, over the bridge, to the junction and turn left.

The Bike Bit:
Please no drafting (riding together) This includes any support rider
who happens to be with you. If it is witnessed then you will be warned, then penalised two minute if persistant!
Head north on the B6479 passing through Horton-in-Ribblesdale, where
the road goes left then right and continue on this road until the junction with the B6255.
At this point turn left, signed Ingleton. Follow this past White Scar Caves. From here there will
be coaches on route so take care. Approximately
one and a half miles after this, there is a steep descent going into Ingleton.
Slow down on this descent
as the route turns a hairpin left onto an unnamed road. You will miss the
turning if too fast! Follow this road to Clapham and turn left onto the
B6480. Keep on this road, riding through Clapham to the junction with the A65(T).
Beware on this road for fast traffic!! Turn left for less than
half a mile then turn left down the first turning, signed Austwick.
Ride through Austwick, not turning off until reaching Helwith Bridge.
Turn left and dismount in the defined area within the pub car park and run (or
stagger, limp, crawl) with your bike to your rack.

Profile of the Cycle Section The Second Run:
The second run (provisionally)is running back the way you have just cycled down,
to the junction at the top of the hill. Turn right into the Lafarge Quarry. Entering the quarry, a half
mile circuit on tarmac before exiting the way you came in. Turn left and follow a footpath
round the perimeter of the quarry to a gate (marshalled) on the right. Go through this
keeping to the track to another gate (marshalled) through and turn right, following a tarmac road
over a (covered) cattle grid and through a farm. Follow the directions to return
to the pub and finish on the small road by the side of the old school house Rules

The rules to the race are as adopted from the BTA on their website. These are an abridged version applicable to this race. Competitors must exercise sound, mature judgment being responsible for their own and other's safety carry out all instructions from officials and the police take responsibility in knowing these rules and the routes involved and race by themselves unaided, unless part of a relay team in the event. Competitors must conduct themselves in a proper manner, respect all others and not bring the sport into disrepute, including threatening, abusive behaviour This will result in Disqualification. All must wear two race numbers, one on the front, one on the back. Race belts may be worn but the number must be displayed at all times, otherwise a time penalty may be given Competitors must be adequately clothed at all times. No naked or topless running/riding. Competitors may not receive any assistance other than that provided by the race marshals. However, if a competitor is in difficulties, others may offer assistance

Transition Area Athletes only into the transition area. Equipment must be PLACED in its allotted position and not where it may hinder the progress of other competitors. Equipment that is discarded will be regarded as a hindrance and a time penalty may be issued. Competitors must mount their cycles and start riding only when the part of both wheels which touch the ground are outside the transition area. Similarly when returning to transition, competitors must dismount their cycle before any part of the cycle enters the Transition ares. They may then walk or run with their bike to its allocated position. Cycle Conduct Every competitor must ensure that his or her cycle is in a safe and roadworthy condition. Handlebars and bar ends must be plugged. Any part of the cycle course may be covered on foot but on these occasions the competitors must carry or push their own machines. NO DRAFTING - The first time you will be warned, The second time incurs a two minute penalty Helmets must be fastened before the competitor's cycle is moved from its allotted place in the transition area and must remain fastened until the cycle is returned to this position at the end of the cycle section of the race. Failure to do so may result in a time penalty. Running Conduct No form of locomotion other than running or walking is permitted. Competitors may only be penalized by readily identifiable race marshals. Penalties may be issued or disqualifications given at any time up to the announcement of the final results The following penalties will be imposed for infringements.

b. Breaking road traffic regulations c. Dangerous conduct/riding e. Failing to obey marshals or the police f. Nudity g. Outside assistance h. Tampering with the equipment of others i. Unsporting impedance k. Course irregularities (unless the competitor returns to the point at which he or she left the course, or a point on the course prior to it, and then completes the course) l. Drafting Appeals Appeals must be made in writing to the race organiser or representative within one hour of a penalty being notified. Do not be put off by these as they are only put in place for your protection. Just enjoy the race!! Refunds
